The SC grants interim protection from coercive action to influencer Ranveer Allahbadia in FIRs lodged against his comments on YouTube show.
The SC asks Allahbadia to cooperate in probe of FIRs lodged in Maharashtra, Assam over his alleged distasteful comments. “If any other FIR is lodged against him over his comments, he shall not be arrested. The SC says no further FIRs shall be lodged against him for his comments during the YouTube show.
The SC restrains Allahbadia, his associate influencers on controversial YouTube show from airing any other episode till further orders. The SC directs Ranveer Allahbadia to deposit his passport at the Thane police station; says he shall not leave India without court’s prior nod.
Meanwhile , Supreme Court has granted interim protection to Allahabadia from arrest in connection with the multiple FIRs lodged against him across India over his recent inappropriate comments during his guest appearance on a show ‘India’s Got Latent’.
The Apex court granted interim protection to him subject to his cooperating fully with the probe.
The Supreme Court said no further FIR shall be registered against him on the basis of the episode aired on show India’s Got Latent. Supreme Court asked him to deposit his passport with police and he can’t leave country without permission of the court.
Earlier the Court expressed displeasure on the remarks of YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahabadia during his guest appearance on a show India’s Got Latent. The apex court asked the lawyer representing Allahabadia about the parameters of obscenity and vulgarity.
The Supreme Court was hearing the social media influence Ranveer Allahbadia’s plea against multiple FIRs. He had sought seeking consolidation of multiple FIRs filed against him in connection with his remarks on “India’s got Latent’.
The SC says there is something dirty in his mind which has been vomited on YouTube show.
“What are values of society? What are these parameters, do you even know? Society has some self-evolved values. You need to respect them. In the name of freedom of speech, no one has licence to speak whatever they want against norms of society. Words you have used will make daughters, sisters, parents and even society feel ashamed. If this is not obscenity, what is it? Why should we quash or club FIRs against you?
The Maharashtra Police’s cyber cell has asked Ranveer Allahbadia to join the investigation on February 24. The cyber cell is investigating Allahbadia and others after he triggered an uproar with his offensive remarks on the show ‘India’s Got Latent.’
