Wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia have taken the political plunge – joining the Congress party. Nothing wrong in it . In democracy every individual celebrity sportsperson actor, actress like to follow a particular ideology . But to make it a selective outrage is totally unacceptable.
The Godi media’s outrage on Super Prime Time had gone berserk moment Vinesh Phogat and Punia joined the grand old party ( Congress) . Quickly criticism and trolls followed . Wrestlers’ protest against Brij Bhushan Singh Saran was politically motivated blah blah . It was not wrestlers’ woes but Congress backed protests etc. And the protests were done keeping the Haryana elections in mind .
Politically motivated ? Really, then what was the furore by the political parties like the BJP when Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in Mumbai on 14th June 2020 . The death still remains a mystery and the CBI taking over the case . Four years have gone by . A channel which ran SSR case for weeks on prime time for TRP has done no follow up despite it’s anchor getting ecstatic when the case was handed over to the CBI .
So were the parties not using SSR death against the then MVA government of Uddhav Thackeray keeping the Bihar assembly polls in mind were eyeing the Rajput vote bank ?Not politically motivated here .
Godi media anchors need to do their homework too . Vinesh and Punia are not the only one to make their foray into politics . Athens Silver medallist Shooter Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore joined the BJP and even becoming a minister in the Modi government first term . Ace Badminton player Saina Nehwal joined the BJP in 2020.
Similarly , former India cricket team opener Gautam Gambhir joined the BJP on 2019 and represented East Delhi constituency . Gambhir however quit politics in 2024 just ahead of the Lok Sabha polls citing cricket commitments . He returned successfully too . Mentored Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024 to win the IPL for the third time . And going on to replace batting legend and T20 World Cup 2024 winning coach Rahul Dravid as Head coach of Team India .
All- rounder Ravindra Jadeja who retired from T20 format after T20 World Cup 20204 win in West Indies has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during its ongoing membership drive, his wife and party MLA Rivaba Jadeja said recently .
In a post on the social media platform X , Ms. Jadeja shared photos of Mr. Jadeja’s membership card along with hers, with a hashtag, “Sadasyata Abhiyan 2024”.

Which bring to the point , Why did the Godi media and it’s vociferous anchors who say on top of their voice nation trusts us went silent or pressed the mute button when the likes of Saina, Rathore, Gambhir , Ravindra Jadeja ( membership) joined the BJP? Nation want to know their hypocrisy .
Vinesh Phogat after been named a Congress candidate said she expects to win each battle with the blessings of people as kicks off her campaign for the upcoming assembly election. Phogat (30) has been fielded from the Julana assembly segment for the upcoming assembly poll.
Well, all the sportspersons mentioned here need not not be favourites of all but have made our nation proud with their achievements . They remain champions irrespective of their political ideology.
Choosing political party is personal choice . And statements like made by former Haryana Minister Anil Vij after Vinesh joined Congress – she is not daughter of India but Congress is ridiculous in every sense . Vinesh is a gritty gutsy champion and the nation stands with her . THis rant over her political sojourn is simply bizarre .
