Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani is no doubt a combative politician and spares no time in taking a dig at the Congress party or Rahul Gandhi whenever the opportunity comes her way. But , this combative nature was nowhere in sight when there was furore over the screening of Sanjay leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat
The minister was conspicuous by her silence and hardly tweeted a word when the Karni Sena, then protesting against the film Padmaavat threatened actress Deepika Padukone and even going to the extent of issuing threats to chop off her nose. Irani was then the Information and Broadcasting minister when the film was released.
Hence, it was rather strange that like many others who were waiting to take a look at the first glimpse of the Bollywood’s newly wed power couple – Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, Irani too figured among them and had the audacity to write on her Instagram account her desire to see DeepVeer.
This classic U- turn by Smriti Irani on Deepika Padukone is really astonishing to say the least.
