In a first from Assam and the North – East, Justice Ranjan Gogoi was sworn in as the 46th Chief Justice of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan by President Ram Nath Kovind at the magnificent Durbar Hall. His tenure will end in November next year.
Immediately, after he took oath he went up to his mother to take her blessings and thereafter met the VVIPs present at the hall. The 63- year-old Ranjan Gogoi is the son of former Assam Chief Minister Kesab Chandra Gogoi .

It may be recalled that Gogoi going strictly by the norms laid , the senior-most after outgoing CJI Dipak Misra, was recommended by the latter and the appointment was then confirmed by President Kovind in September this year.
Justice Gogoi started his career as a Permanent Judge of the Guwahati High Court in February 2001. He went on to be transferred to the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2010 and was appointed Chief Justice there in 2011. He came to the Supreme Court as a judge on April 23, 2012.
