Well the much awaited political debut of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has begun . And viewers it has begun on an impressive note . Very much the way her Lok Sabha By- election win was from Wayanad by a record 4. 10 lakh votes. According to EC , Priyanka won by a margin of 4,10,931 with 6,22 338 votes. LDF’s Sathyan Mokeri was behind her with 2,11,407 votes and NDA’s Navya Haridas was in the third spot with 1,99,309 votes.
Her win ensured that three Gandhi’s are now in Parliament – Congress CPP leader and former party president Sonia Gandhi Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan and brother Rahul Gandhi , Leader of The Opposition, Lok Sabha. Much to the angst of the BJP and the Godi media .
After her win there was curiosity as to how she will make her presence felt in parliament . And to begin her new political avatar as MP she was among the lead speakers of the Congress during the Constitution debate . Here she made the points she had to make in her own genial way. She did not look rattled or angry . And with smile on her face took sharp jibes at the BJP .
She lamented BJP’s obsession with country’s first prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and asked how many times would they still blame Nehru for all the wrongs in the country and not caring of what’s happening at the present .
She hit back at Rajnath Singh for his repeated comments on Nehru saying “What is your responsibility? Or does all the responsibility lie with Jawaharlal Nehru ji?” she asked in a swipe at the BJP over its repeated criticism of India’s first prime minister. “His name can be erased from the books, but his role in the Independence struggle and nation building can never be erased from this country,” the Congress general secretary said about her great grandfather.
She took on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s claim of fighting corruption by asking why not discuss the Adani issue then rather than avoiding it . Incidents in Sambhal and the alarming situation in Manipur where Prime Minister Narendra Modi had not visited .
And not to be left behind took a dig at the BJP’s washing machine adage. “The nation knows that BJP has a washing machine. Anyone, who joins BJP, is given a clean chit. ” And she further mentioned her erstwhile colleagues who who had joined BJP with this telling line – People who go (BJP) get cleaned in the washing machine, I can see a few, they have been washed in washing machine …
Her speech in parliament earned kudos, four- time Lok Sabha MP and Senior Congress Leader Shashi Tharoor told media , she did not speak like a first-time MP and rightly pointed out to the government that it should talk about current times rather than harping on the past.
But Godi media viewers conveniently clearly did not see or rather did not hear these line By Priyanka Gandhi Vadra instead latched on to Priyanka Gandhi’s comment on Himachal Pradesh’s apple farmers.
If her 32 minute speech was fiery . She showed courage to go to parliament with bags with Palestine and Bangladesh ( stood in protest with other Congress MP’s and raised the attacks on Hindus, Christians there ) written on it .
BJP as usual backed by Godi media took jibe on her attire . But she remained unfazed and gave them an aptly reply – “No one will decide what would I wear.”
Her courage won admirers too. Former close aide of late former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and L K Advani, Sudheendra Kulkrani wrote on X
Bravo, Priyanka Gandhi!
I have many differences with today’s Congress. But I salute her for her brave show of solidarity with the fraternal people of Palestine, victims of a barbaric genocide by Netanyahu’s Israel.
