The Supreme Court on Thursday held Ferozepur SSP Avneet Hans responsible for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security breach on January 5, during his visit to Punjab.
“Avneet Hans failed to discharge his duty even though sufficient force was available and he was informed two hours before PM Modi’s cavalcade was scheduled to enter the route,” the apex court said.
The report was filed by five-member Committee headed by a retired top court judge, Justice Indu Malhotra, as per which Ferozepur SSP failed to discharge his duty to maintain law and order.
The committee set-up by the Supreme Court suggests remedial measures to strengthen the security of Prime Minister. Supreme Court says it will send the report to the government so that steps are taken.
Questions were raised over the issue of security breach of the PM in the then Congress-ruled under chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi when PM Modi’s cavalcade was grounded on January 5, leaving him stranded for 20 minutes on a flyover about 30 km from Hussainiwala after a blockade by some protesters. The PM returned without attending an event that he scheduled to attend.
