Former Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has confirmed in a tweet that his father , former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda will contest the Rajya Sabha Polls scheduled on June 19 from Karnataka.

The 87-year-old Deve Gowda the JD (S) patriarch , was reportedly persuaded by interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi and several other legislators to contest for the upper House of parliament. And Kumaraswamy admitted it was not easy to persuade Deve Gowda to contest.
If Deve Gowda wins, this will be his second Rajya Sabha term, the first term was when he was the Prime Minister from 1 June 1996 to 21 April 1997 .
