The suspense is finally over as to who would take over from Rohit Sharma s India’s new Test Captain. The Ajit Agarkar-led India men’s selection committee has announced an 18-man squad for the next month’s five-match Test series in England starting June 20.
The 25-year-old GT Skipper in Tata IPL Shubman Gill has been named as the next India Test captain. Wicket-Keeper batsman Rishabh Pant will be his deputy.
The selectors also gave maiden Test call to Sai Sudharsan and Left arm seamer Arshdeep Singh. While Karun NNair makes a much awaited long comeback into the Indian team.
It will be a big Test for Gill as the team will be without the two legends who bid adieu to Test cricket Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli. And shoes that are big to fill.
Ravindra Jadeja retains his place. Axar Patel, Shreyas Iyer miss out So does seamer Harshit Rana. Battling injuries and oor form selectors left out Mohammed Shami
Jasprit Bumrah will spearhead the pace attack alongside Mohammed Siraj and will have Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep and left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh for company.
Agarkar confirmed that Bumrah will not be available for all five matches of the England tour.
The spin department will be manned by Kuldeep Yadav along with all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar.
