The chairman of the selectors M S K Prasad and the selection panel are clear as to who would in the days ahead will take over from the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni ? It is the 20 – year-old flamboyant left- hander from Delhi Rishabh Pant. The hint was given as Pant was picked for the first Two ODI’s against the West Indies.
Ever since his brilliant maiden Test hundred 114 in the last Test against England at the Oval and followed up by a blazing 84 ball 92 in the first Test at Rajkot against West Indies, the calls for pant’s inclusion in the ODI team had grown louder.
It is no doubt MSD will keep wickets and Pant will play as a batsman and will be the understudy to MSD so as to groom him fore the future . The flop show by Dinesh Karthik has meant that now Pant has emerged as a possible number one wicket- keeper as Wriddhiman Saha is out with injury. Saha will find the return tough in case Pant fares well in the tour to Australia later on.
The rest of the team virtually picks themselves. Superstar and batting mainstay Virat Kohli after rest from Asia Cup returns as the skipper. The five match ODI series gets under from October 21 in Guwahati.
