Senior Congress leader and three-time Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor filed his nomination on from the Thiruvananthapuram constituency for the fourth consecutive time in the Lok Sabha elections.
Tharoor arrived at the district collectorate in the afternoon along with senior party leaders, including MLA M Vincent, former minister V S Sivakumar, and Thiruvananthapuram DCC president Palode Ravi, along with other workers.
He shook hands with people and exchanged pleasantries while proceeding to the Collectorate complex. Some party activists draped shawls around him and expressed their support.
Speaking to media after filing his nomination and quoted by ANI THaroor said, “I submitted my nomination to the collector. It’s my fourth time…Now what we are seeing is the present government taking decisions which are fascist, unconstitutional and against the system of democracy. So they shouldn’t be given another chance to repeat such things. So we should understand that this election is a protest to save the soul of our nation…Major opposition leaders are being jailed. Yesterday, one of the leaders was released after being jailed for over six months. Kejriwal is in jail. He is a national convenor of a national party. This shows they are in a position of fear. BJP has realised that they will face defeats at the national level so they are indulged in these actions…”
BJP has fielded Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar from Thiruvananthapuram.
