It is utterly shocking when you see that the ruling party, essentially the Government whose responsibility it is to run the House, has chosen to disrupt the Parliament – Shashi Tharoor, Senior Congress Leader

Senior Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor has slammed the government for repeated parliament disruptions. Speaking to reporters  and quoted by ANI, Tharoor, The Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs said , “It is utterly shocking when you see that the ruling party, essentially the Government whose responsibility it is to run the House, has chosen to disrupt the Parliament in this way. It is deeply disappointing. To my mind, the issue they have raised is also irrelevant because it is State subject…It has nothing to do with the Central Parliament. Why are they trying to disrupt the House on the basis of that? Honestly, we are reducing Parliament to a farce. If we don’t function properly, why will the voters want to entrust their precious tax money to running this institution which we used to hail as the temple of democracy? If instead of prayers here, we are having shouting matches, it’s really a disappointment.”

Echoing Tharoor’s view , was  Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has  said the government seems to have made up its mind that it does not want the House to function and finds some excuse or the other to create a ruckus.

The BJP members have been raising the issue of reservation for Muslims in government contracts in Karnataka and claiming that the state’sDeputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar purportedly suggested changing the Constitution to accommodate a four per cent quota for Muslims.

Shivakumar, has, however, said that he never stated the Constitution will be amended in any manner to give religion-based reservation.

“They seem to have made up their mind that they don’t want the House to function. It’s been many days now. They find some excuse or the other to (create ruckus),” Priyanka Gandhi told reporters in the Parliament complex after the Lok Sabha was adjourned for a second time during the day.
