Desperate in search of points and a win to salvage their IPL 2018 campaign, Delhi Daredevils beat the Kolkata Knight Riders by 55 runs at a packed Feroz Shah Kotla. A win that brought some smile back in the team dugout as one saw head coach Ricky Ponting smiling and Gautam Gambhir applauding the superb effort of the team.
Under a new skipper Shreyas Iyer ( 90 off 43 ) and young opener Prithvi Shaw ( 62) , Delhi posted an impressive total of 219 after KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik asked them to bat first . It was a superb blistering knock from skipper Iyer who took over the captaincy from Gautam Gambhir, who stepped down after string of losses and poor personal form with the bat. Iyer hit ten sixes three fours while Shaw hit seven fours and two sixes.
Iyer and Shaw added 68 runs for the second wicket after the latter had shared a 59-run partnership for the first wicket with Kiwi batsman Colin Munro (33).
Chasing a stiff target, KKR were never in the race as they lost wickets regularly as the run rate was a high. Kiwi paceman Trent Boult who has been very impressive in this edition removed Robin Uthappa (1) and Sunil Narine (26) after Maxwell bowled Chris Lynn (5). Andre Russell ( 44) and Shubman Gill ( 37 tried hard but the asking rate was just to much for them. KKR could manage only 164 for 9
Spinners Amit Mishra (2/23) and pacers Lima Plunkett and Avesh Khan kept the batsmen in check. Avesh (2/29) bowled Russell with a Yorker and sent him off . The gesture was not appreciated by Russell.
