Shikhar Dhawan led Indian team drew level with South Africa in the three-match ODI series as they won the second must win game at Ranchi by 7 wickets .
After South Africa Skipper Keshav Maharaj won the toss and elected to bat first the Proteas made a stiff target . Posting a competitive 278 / 7 in their 50 overs . Experienced opener Quinton de Kock fell early for ( 5) , fellow opener Janneman Malan out for 25 . The innings got the momentum with vital knocks coming – Reeza Hendricks 74 ( 76 balls, 9 fours, 1 six) , Aiden Markram 79 ( 89 balls, 7 fours , 1 six) , Heinrich Klaasen 30, dangerous David Miller was not out 35 .
For India , the bowling figures were : Mohammed Siraj 3/ 38 ( 10 overs) , on a come-back after spate of injuries Washington Sundar 1/ 60 ( 9 overs) , debutant Shahbaz Ahmed 1/ 54 ( 10 overs) , Avesh Khan 0/ 35 ( 7 overs) , Kuldeep Yadav 1/ 49 ( 9 overs) , Shardul Thakur 1/ 36 ( 5 overs)
In reply to the chase , India were joled early on . Skipper Shikhar Dhawan was out for 13. Shubman Gill followed soon for 28. But Ishan Kishan put India back on track with his aggressive innings of 93 ( 84 balls, 7 fours , 4 sixes) . Vice- captain Shreyas Iyer finally played an innings that he will cherish as he scored a timely ton . That too an unbeaten one of 113 ( 111 balls , 5 fours). it was Shreyas Iyer knock that took the game away from the Proteas and swung the game India’s way.
Sanju Samson not out 30 ( 36 balls, 1 four, 1 six) along with Iyer saw India home by 7 wickets . India reaching 282/ 3 in 45. 5 overs. A comfortable win at the end.
