Senior Nationalist Congress Party leader Dilip Walse Patil was given the charge of Maharashtra Home department following the resignation of Anil Deshmukh.
In a dramatic day After the Bombay high court ordered a preliminary inquiry by the Central Bureua of Investigation into allegations of extortion raised against him by former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh against Anil Deshmukh the pressure was on Deshmukh to resign morally.
In his resignation letter to Maharashtra CM, Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said he doesn’t find it morally correct to continue as the home minister after Bombay High Court’s order.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray forwarded the resignation letter of Anil Deshmukh to Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari with a request that it may be accepted, the CMO said in a statement. Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari later on accepted Anil Deshmukh’s resignation. He also accepts CM’s recommendation of giving the charge of Home Department to Dilip Walse Patil & giving addnl charge of Labour Dept & State Excise Dept to Hasan Mushrif & Ajit Pawar, respectively.
