Haryana police officer Y Puran Kumar’s death is not about the respect of one family but all Dalits, Leader Of the Opposition In Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said while asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to act immediately in the case.
According to media reports, Addressing reporters after meeting the family of the senior police officer who was found with a gunshot wound in his Chandigarh home last week, Gandhi said there was systematic discrimination against Kumar to demoralise him and damage his career.
“A wrong message is being sent out to Dalits… that no matter how successful you are, if you are Dalit, you can be oppressed and crushed,” the former Congress president said.
He said the Haryana chief minister has not fulfilled his commitment of a free and fair inquiry.
Gandhi said there was a lot of pressure on Kumar’s family, particularly his two daughters.
His visit came amid stepped up attacks by the opposition against the Haryana government over Kumar’s alleged suicide.
Further , Days after Haryana Police officer Y Puran Kumar allegedly shot himself dead in Chandigarh, his bureaucrat wife claimed that his death was the result of “systematic persecution” by high-ranking officers.
Amneet P Kumar filed a complaint and requested that the Chandigarh police register an FIR against a senior police officer of Rohtak and a top-ranking official under section 108 (abetment of suicide) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
She also demanded their immediate arrest. The officers could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
Amneet, a senior bureaucrat, rushed back from Japan, where she was part of a Haryana government delegation led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
Y Puran Kumar (52), a 2001-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, was found dead in his Chandigarh residence on Tuesday. His body, with a gunshot wound, was found in a room in the basement of the Sector 11 house.
