The Drugs Controller General of India has given a nod for conducting a study on mixing Covishield and Covaxin, the two main vaccines used in India’s COVID-19 vaccination programme.
This study and its clinical trials will be conducted by Vellore’s Christian Medical College, Dr V K Paul, Niti Aayog member said.
A separate study by Indian Council of Medical Research showed that combining these two COVID-19 vaccines elicited better immunogenicity than two doses of the same vaccine.
The study also found that immunisation with combination of Covishield and Covaxin was safe and the adverse effects were also found to be similar when compared to the same dose regimen.
