Congress leader and in- charge of Punjab Harish Rawat has apologised for his controversial comments comparing Navjot Sidhu and team to “Panj Pyare”, a term of reverence for Sikhs. He also promised to atone for the blunder by volunteering his services at a gurdwara.

“I used that word (Panj Pyare) as a reference for a respected person. Still, if my words hurt feelings of any person, I apologize and take my words back. For atonement, I’ll sweep the floors of a Gurudwara in my state (Uttarakhand),” Punjab Congress in charge Harish Rawat said today.

He added that it was his responsibility to discuss with the PCC chief, his team and the “Panj Pyare”(Navjot Singh Sidhu and 4 working presidents). “Sidhu has told me that the discussions over polls, organizational structure will be geared up… Rest assured, PCC is working.

Rawat, whose comments about removing Sidhu’s advisers over their ill-advised comments on Kashmir and Pakistan worsened the infighting in the party, had described the Punjab Congress chief and his working presidents as “Punj Pyaras”.

“As far as I know, Navjot Singh Sidhu is the first PCC chief who held a meeting with all frontal organisations and others to find out that where are they facing problems in their functions and how can it be resolved.”
