Following the deeply worrying internal fight within the CBI, the government has appointed Central Bureau of Investigation Joint director M Nageshwar Rao as the interim director of the investigating agency with immediate effect. Nageshwar Rao is a 1986 batch IPS officer from the Odisha cadre.
The move comes after the Central Vigilance Commission passed an order seeking removal of all powers to both Alok Verma and Rakesh Asthana.
The warring agency’s chief Alok Verma and Special Director Rakesh Asthana have been sent on leave.
Further according to latest media reports, the offices of the duo too have been sealed.
Verma meanwhile has now according reports at the time of filing this report has moved Supreme Court against his removal.
