It is good news for Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar and his co- star Bhumi Pedneker whose film ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ has hit the bull’s eye at the domestic box office.
According to the latest report on BoxofficeIndia.com, the film raked in as much as Rs 94 crore nett in its first week at the box office. While this number is decent, ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ has fared well at the ticket window from day one to day five with an average collection of Rs 16.29 crore nett.
The film has successfully broken Bollywood’s lull at the box office and seems to be emerging as one of the year’s biggest blockbuster thus far, after the unbeatable ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’. It also looks like Akshay’s maintaining his successful run on the career front after his last hit ‘Jolly LLB 2′.
Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ is a love story set in the Nandgaon region of Mathura and addresses the issue of open defecation.
According to Bollywood Hungama ,Akshay Kumar riding on a marketing campaign inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat concept, the latest hit is Kumar’s sixth hit in a row after Subhash Kapoor’s courtroom drama Jolly LLB 2, which released earlier this year (Rs117 crore), crime thriller Rustom (Rs127.49 crore) that also won him a National Award, multi-starrer comedy Housefull 3 (Rs109.14 crore), historical drama Airlift (Rs128.1 crore) and action comedy Singh Is Bliing (Rs89.95 crore).
