Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the the state government will launch a portal to invite suggestions for change of names of cities, towns and villages “which are contrary to our civilisation, culture and derogatory to any caste or community”.
Sarma in tweet wrote, We shall launch a portal to invite suggestions on change of names across Assam which are contrary to our civilisation, culture & derogatory to any caste or community.

Basically they are names associated with Muslim invasion.
Sarma said names like Kalapahar is associated with a Muslim general of the Bengal sultanate who had attacked the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati.
“Kalapahar destroyed the Kamakhya temple, and I don’t see why any town should be named after him,” Sarma said.
