To become the third Indian weightlifter to bag the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award is some thing special. This is exactly what Mirabhai Chanu is currently feeling.
Chanu is the third weightlifter to win the prize after Karnam Malleswari (1995) and Nameirakpam Kunjarani (1996). Chanu was nominated for the award after winning gold medal in 48kg category at the World Weightlifting Championships last year, following it up with a gold at the Commonwealth Games in Australia this year. She did not participate in the Asian Games due to injury.
