Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday suspended Congress MP Rajani Patil for the remainder of the Budget session for filming House proceedings.
‘In the public domain yesterday, on Twitter, there was dissemination of a video relating to proceedings of this House. I took a serious view of it and did all that was required. As a matter of principle and to keep the sanctity of Parliament, no outside agency’s involvement could be sought,’ the RS chairman announced on Friday.
‘Rajani Ashokrao Patil engaged in this unwholesome activity and what has been seen is a matter that must engage our attention,’ Dhankhar added.
‘The entire matter will be probed by the Privileges Committee and till we have the benefit of the recommendation of the Privileges Committee for consideration of this august House, Dr Rajani Ashokrao Patil is suspended for the current session.’
Speaking later to reporters and quoted by ANI Congress MP Rajani Patil said, I did nothing like that but I’ve been given “faansi ki sazaa” even when I did nothing. I come from a family of freedom fighter & my culture doesn’t permit me to violate the law.
No particular gender has the right to violate the law. Law was violated, rules were violated – Congress accepted this in the House, Union Minister Smriti Irani told ANI
I think it was done in a very humiliating manner. Shouldn’t have happened. If they feel something wrong was done, they should’ve sent it to Committee. Don’t know if they sent it. She wasn’t given a chance to clarify, SP MP Jaya Bachchan reacted on suspension of Cong MP Rajani Patil from RS told ANI
