THE AMBERGLOW CANDY STORE By HIYOKO KURISU

Step into the warmly lit glow of Gloaming Lane, where every sweet tells a story. The Amberglow Candy Store in the Night Alley introduces readers to Kogetsu, a half-fox shopkeeper whose magical wagashi confections promise to change lives in unexpected ways. Through his encounters with a diverse cast of customers, from the lonely to the lost, the grieving to the hopeful—Kogetsu learns that every act of kindness, no matter how small, carries transformative power.

In a world defined by disconnection, and burnout, readers are increasingly drawn to what has been called iyashi-kei or “healing” fiction—gentle, hopeful stories that soothe while offering wisdom for modern life. Translations of Japanese and Korean works like Before the Coffee Gets Cold and DallerGut Dream Department Store have become global bestsellers, showing the universal appeal of quiet magic, small acts of kindness, and the reassurance that even the most ordinary lives carry extraordinary meaning.

The Amberglow Candy Store sits firmly within this movement, offering a fresh voice that blends cosy fantasy with timeless fable. Kogetsu’s shop, with its magical sweets, becomes not just a place of transformation for his customers—but also a mirror for our own desires for connection, renewal, and hope.

‘Each story within is its own special candy, sweet and delicious! You’ll want to savour each one!’ Sarah Beth Durst, New York Times bestselling author of The Spellshop

‘The Amberglow Candy Store seasons the sweetest and most savoury morsels of human connection with a dash of intrigue that cosy fantasy readers are bound to savour.
