In a dastardly act that has sent shockwaves in United States , an 18-year-old gunman has killed 21 people, including 18 children, and rendered several other grievously injured at an elementary school in Texas state, before the assailant was eliminated in police firing, reported PTI.
Gunshots rang out of Robb Elementary School in Uvalde town, Texas, 134 km from San Antonio, at about 11.30 am on Tuesday. Texas Governor Greg Abbott identified the killer as Salvador Ramos, a resident of the area where the school was located.
The shooter’s motive remains unclear. US President Joe Biden was briefed on the shooting during his return flight from Japan where he attended the Quad Summit.
As per ANI report, United States President Joe Biden has asked Americans to stand up to the gun lobby and urged the members of the Congress for an immediate gun control legislation as he highlighted that the ‘sensible gun laws’ need to be passed in the wake of Texas school shooting in which 21 were killed including 18 children.
“When we passed the Assault Weapons Ban (in 1994), mass shootings went down. When the law expired [in 2004], mass shootings tripled. The idea that an 18-year old kid can walk into a gun store and buy assault weapons, it’s just wrong,” the US President said hours after one of the deadliest school shootings in Texas.
Suggesting to reinstate the assault weapons ban and other ‘common-sense gun laws’, Biden said, “We have to act.
Vice – President Kamala Harris tweeted, Tonight in Uvalde, Texas, there are parents who lost children. Families who have lost loved ones. And many who have been injured. As a nation, we must have the courage to take action and prevent this from ever happening again.
