Royal Challengers Bangalore’s play-offs hopes took a hit as they were outplayed by Punjab Kings by 54 runs in the 60th match of the Tata IPl 2022 at Brabourne stadium.
RCB skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and bowled first. RCB were in for a nightmare as Punjab kings began on a aggressive way. Opener Jonny Bairstow led the charge charge with a blistering power packed inning at the top . The knock rattled RCB bowlers. Bairstow scored a blazing 66 ( 29 balls, 4 fours and 7 sixes) . It was a devastating onslaught . Shikhar Dhawan ( 21) , Bhanuka Rajapaksa ( 1) failed to score big. But Liam Livingstone in superb form this season came out with yet power packed innings 70 ( 42 balls, 5 fours, 4 sixes) . Skipper Mayank Agarwal ( 19) . It helped Punjab kings post a huge 209/ 9 in 20 overs

For RCB the bowling figures read :Josh Hazlewood 0/64 (4 overs) Glenn Maxwell 1/ 17 ( 2 overs) , Mohammed Siraj 0/ 36 ( 2 overs), Wanindu Hasaranga 2/ 15 ( 4 overs) , Shahbaz Ahmed 1/ 40 ( 4 overs) , Harshal Patel 4/ 34 ( 4 overs)
Chasing a big total, RCB lost wicket at regular intervals and it derailed the chase . Virat Kohli (20 ) , Skipper Faf Du Plessis (10) , Rajat Patidar (26) , Mahipal Lomror (6), Glenn Maxwell (35) , Dinesh Karthik ( 11). RCB eventually faltered under the pressure of the huge score and finished on 155/9 in 20 overs.
For Punjab Kings bowling figures were : Kagiso Rabada 3/ 21 ( 4 overs) was brilliant , Harpreet Brar 1/ 33 ( 4 overs) , Arshdeep Singh 1/ 27 ( 4 overs) , Rishi Dhawan 2/ 36 ( 4 overs) , Rahul Chahar 2/ 37 ( 4 overs)
While Punjab remain in the mix with 12 points from as many games, the margin of victory considerably improved their net run-rate to +0.023 and RCB despite having 14 points from 13 games are at a -0.323.
