Delhi Capitals who were unlucky not to qualify for the play-offs drew some consolation as they beat Punjab Kings by six wickets in a thrilling Tata IPL 2025 encounter.
Put into bat by DC stand -in Captain Faf Du Plessis, Punjab Kings batted well to post an impressive total . KIngs began slowly as they lost in-form Priyansh Arya early for 6. Prabhsimran Singh was out for 28 . Josh Inglis 32. Skipper Shreyas Iyer gave the side the boost with a fine 53 ( 34 balls, 5 fours, 2 sixes) , Nehal Wadhera 16, Shashank Singh 11 could not go on .
Aussie Marcus Stoinis gave the power finish with a blazing cameo 44 ( 16 balls , 3 fours, 4 sixes and was not out too. Azmatullah Omarzai 1, Marco Jansen 0 , Harpreet Brar not out 7 as Kings finished eventually at 206/8 in their 20 overs.
DC Bowling looked weak in absence of Mitchell Starc. Mukesh Kumar 1/49 (4 overs) Mustafizur Rahman 3/33 ( 4 overs), Mohit Sharma 0/47 ( 4 overs), Viraj Nigam 2/38 ( 4 overs), Kuldeep Yadav 2/39 ( 4 overs)
Playing for pride DC chase was well calculated . They showed no signs of panic chasing stiff total. KL Rahul 35 , Skipper Faf du Plessis 23. Karun Nair celebrated his Team India Test recall with a fine 44 ( 27 balls, 5 fours, 2 sixes), Sediqullah Atal 22. These were the four wickets DC lost in the chase .
Sameer Rizvi played a match- winning 58 not out ( 28 balls, 3 fours , 5 sixes ) and along with Tristan Stubbs not out 18 ( 14 balls, 2 fours) saw DC home by six wickets as DC reached 208/4 in 19.3 overs with 3 balls to spare and finishing the season in style .
