Punjab Kings pulled off sensational 16 run over defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders in a thrilling Tata IPL 2025 encounter in New Chandigarh . Punjab Kings thus defended the lowest total in the IPL history successfully .
Earlier, Punjab Kings Skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bat first . And the Kings were off to a flier with openers – Priyansh Arya 22 ( 12 balls , 3 fours, 1 six) and Prabhsimran Singh 30 ( 15 balls, 3 fours , 2 sixes). But soon a dramatic collapse started after the duo’s exit.
Punjab Skipper Shreyas Iyer out for ( 0) , debutant Josh Inglis played a poor shot out for ( 2) Nehal Wadhera ( 10), Glenn Maxwell ( 7).
And the horror continued with Suryansh Shedge ( 4) , Shashank Singh ( 18), Marco Jansen ( 1) . Punjab Kings batting were in tatters and huge crowd were stunned . Xavier Bartlett debutant ( 11) , Arshdeep Singh Not out 1 , Yuzvendra Chahal not out 0. Punjab bowled out for 111/ 10 in 15. 3 overs. KKR at this point had the match on their hands .
KKR Bowling : Vaibhav Arora 1/ 26 ( 2. 3 overs) , Anrich Nortje getting a game finally 1/ 23 ( 3 overs) , Harshit Rana 3/25 (3 overs), Varun Chakaravarthy 2/ 21 ( 4 overs), Sunil Narine 2/ 14 ( 3 overs)
In reply KKR were rocked early . Openers Quinton de Kock out for ( 2) and Sunil Narine for ( 5) . Skipper Ajinkya Rahane fell for ( 17), Angkrish Raghuvanshi out for 37 ( 28 balls , 5 fours, 1 six) . KKR began to wobble in the modest chase.
The agony continued with wickets of Venkatesh Iyer ( 7), Rinku Singh ( 2), Ramandeep Singh ( 0). KKR were struggling while Punjab bounced back with regular wickets. Yuzvendra Chahal demolished the KKR batting with four wickets .
Andre Russell KKR’s lone hope was the last man out for 17 , Russell threatened to take the match away with some big hits but was unable to do so . He was the last man out bowled by Marco Jansen .
Vaibhav Arora was the ninth KKR batsman out in a superb wicket maiden 18th over over by Arshdeep Singh. KKR embarrassingly bowled out for 95/ 10 in 15. 1 overs. KKR did not bat even the full 20 overs. It will haunt them. surely.
The KKR dug-out looked stunned and total disbelief as to what had happened . Punjab dug-out on the other hand were ecstatic and the team’s co- owner Preity Zinta’s wide smile said it all . Punjab Kings Head coach Ricky Ponting was delighted with the heist .
