Rajasthan Royals put up an impressive display as they beat Punjab Kings by a convincing 50 runs in a Tata IPL 2025 encounter in the imposing new Chandigarh stadium .
Earlier, Punjab Kings Captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl first. His move however appeared to backfire as RR openers Skipper Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal got them off to a flier . The duo took the total to 89/ 1 in 10.2 overs when Samson fell for 38 ( 26 balls , 6 fours) . After recent poor scores Yashasvi Jaiswal finally found his form back with a fine 67 ( 45 balls, 3 fours, 5 sixes) to put RR on course for big total.
Riyan Parag too joined the party with an unbeaten 43 ( 25 balls, 3 fours, 3 sixes. Nitish Rana holed out for 12. Shimron Hetmyer promoted up the order scored 20. Dhruv Jurel not out 13 as RR finished at strong 205/ 4 in their 20 overs.

In reply , Punjab Kings were rocked early by pace of Jofra Archer who removed ( impact Player) opener Priyansh Arya ( 0) and Skipper Shreyas Iyer for ( 10) .

Marcus Stoinis ( 1) blew away the opportunity to make an impact batting higher up the order out for ( 1). Punjab Kings were in tatters with total at 26/ 3 in 3. 3 overs. Prabhsimran Singh was dismissed for ( 17) with Kings reeling at 43/ 4 in 6.2 overs.
Nehal Wadhera and Glenn Maxwell put Punjab Kings back with a fighting stand . Maxwell perished after scoring 30 ( 21 balls, 3 fours, 1 six) Kings total at 131/ 5 in 15 over. Wadhera soon fell for well made 62 ( 41 balls , 4 fours, 3 sixes) at the same total 131/ 6 . Kings were rocked by the double blows. The Sri Lankan spin pair Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga sent back the well set duo.
The match appeared to be slipping away from the Punjab Kings with the 7th wicket of Suryansh Shedge ( 2) at 136/ 7 in 16. 1 overs. Marco Jansen was the 8th out for 3 with the total at 145/ 8 in 17. 4 overs.
Shashank Singh not out 10 and Arshdeep Singh (1) was the 9th dismissed for 151/ 9 in 19.5 overs. Punjab Kings finishing at 155/ 9 in their 20 overs. Lockie Ferguson not out 4. RR winning by 50 runs .
