Mumbai Indians came out with a superb all- round show to thrash Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 7 wickets in a Tata IPL 2024 encounter . It was Mumbai’s second consecutive win and puts their campaign back on track.
Mumbai Indians Skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to field first in front of huge home crowd at Wankhede. And his bowlers responded by taking wickets at regular intervals to peg the Royal Challengers Bengaluru back . In- from Virat Kohli struggled for timing and was out for 3 . In search of form RCB Skipper Faf du Plessis finally blasted his way back with an attacking innings of 61 ( 40 balls, 4 fours , 3 sixes). Making his IPL debut Will Jacks struck two fours before he was out for ( 8).
In search of a partner Faf du Plessis found one in Rajat Patidar who hit an impressive 50 ( 26 balls, 3 fours , 4 sixes). Glenn Maxwell disappointed out for (0) with the team total reading a dismal – 107-4, 12.2 overs. Soon to go were Mahipal Lomror ( 0), Saurav Chauhan ( 9) , Vijaykumar Vyshak (0). The RCB innings got the momentum thanks to a brilliant unbeaten camo by Dinesh Karthik who displayed his wide of range of innovative shots.
DK scored an impressive 53 ( 23 balls, 5 fours, 4 sixes ) and remained not out. It It was the sensational DK blitz that helped the RCB reach a fighting total of 196/ 8 in their 20 overs.
MI bowling was spot on : Jasprit Bumrah was superb with fine figures of 5/21 ( 4 overs). Mohammad Nabi 0/ 7 ( 1 over), Gerald Coetzee 1/ 42 ( 4 overs), Akash Madhwal 1/ 57 ( 4 overs), Shreyas Gopal 1/ 32 ( 4 overs), whose action looked very much like Anil Kumble while delivering. MI were off to a blistering start with openers Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma . The duo were on a rampage from the word go racing to 84/ 0 in mere 7 overs. RCB bowlers looked frustrated .
Ishan Kishan was the first out for 69 ( 34 balls, 7 fours, 5 sixes) with total at 101-1, 8.5 overs . Rohit Sharma fell for 38 ( 24 balls , 3 fours, 3 sixes) was caught brilliantly one- handed by Reece Topley off Will Jacks with the total reading 139/ 2 . Suryakumar Yadav was the third batsman out but not after after a devastating innings of 52 ( 19 balls , 5 fours , 4 sixes)
Skipper Hardik Pandya 21 ( 6 balls 3 sixes) finished the match with a six and remained not out . Tilak Varma 16 not out ( 10 balls , 3 fours) ensured no further wickets and saw Mumbai home in convincing fashion. MI reaching 199/ 3 in 15. 3 overs.
