Kolkata Knight Riders came out with a scintillating batting show to rout Delhi Capitals by 106 runs in a Tata IPL 2024 match in Visakhapatnam. It is first time KKR have won first three games in the IPL . They have message to other teams clearly.
Kolkata Knight Riders Skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bat first. And his batsmen did not let him down. Watched from the stands by team co- owner Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan , KKR came out all guns blazing to the delight of the Pathaan actor.
KKR were off to blistering start with Phil Salt and Sunil Narine . The duo set the stage for the big total racing to 60-1, 4.3 when Salt fell for 18. Narine on the other hand did not hold back and went on the rampage with amazing shots all- round the wicket. All clean striking of the ball. DC Bowlers had no clue where to bowl. Narine was sensational as he smashed a blistering 85 (39 balls, 7 fours, 7 sixes). Talented youngster Angkrish Raghuvanshi too joined the run feast striking a superb 54 ( 27 balls , 7 fours, 3 sixes).
DC bowlers and skipper Rishabh Pant looked lost . Adding to the DC nightmare was big- hitting power man Andre Russell who his his typical power packed innings 19 ball 41 ( 4 fours, 3 sixes). Skipper Shreyas Iyer fell for 18.
Young Rinku Singh played a brilliant cameo 26 ( 8 balls , 1 four, 3 sixes) . KKR reaching a formidable 272 / 7 just missing by 5 runs the highest ever total of SRH of 277 made against Mumbai Indians earlier in the Tata IPl 2024. DC bowlers heaved a relief when KKR innings ended. The carnage left DC head coach Ricky Ponting, and Director of cricket Sourav Ganguly shell- shocked.
It was a forgettable out for DC , the bowling figures were : Khaleel Ahmed 1/ 43( 4 overs), Ishant Sharma 2/ 43 ( 3 overs), Anrich Nortje 3/ 59 ( 4 overs), Rasikh Dar Salam0/ 47 ( 3 overs), Sumit Kumar 0/ 19 ( 2 overs), Axar Patel 0/ 18 ( 1 over) , Mitchell Marsh 1/ 37 ( 3 overs)
In reply to the massive KKR total, DC were off to a horror start . Opener Prithvi Shaw fell for 10. Big- hitting all- rounder Mitchell Marsh flopped out for 0. Abishek Porel fell without disturbing the scorers. DC innings were in tatters when David Warner Played on to a Mitchell Starc delivery for 18 . DC total read a dismal 33-4, 4.3.
Tristan Stubbs 54 ( 32 balls , 3 fours , 4 sixes) and Skipper Rishabh Pant scored his second consecutive fifty 55 ( 25 balls, 5 fours, 5 sixes) tried hard to salvage some pride as they upped the tempo. But the target was imply too tough after early wickets . DC eventually were bowled out for 166 in 17. 2 overs . KKR winning by thumping 106 runs.
