Taking Over From The Wall : Gautam Gambhir Appointed Head Coach Of Team India ; To Take Charge From Sri Lanka Series Starting July 27

Former India opener and Kolkata Knight Riders mentor Gautam Gambhir has replaced batting legend Rahul Dravid as the next Head Coach of Men In Blue .

Dravid ended his tenure on a high as Team India ended their long 13- year wait for ICC and 17- year wait for T20 World Cup as they won the T20 WorldCUp2024 in Barbados , West Indies on June 29 beating South Africa in the final by 7 runs.

Gambhir will take charge from the upcoming away series against Sri Lanka where Team India are set to play 3 ODIs & 3 T20Is starting July 27, 2024.

The 42- year-old Gambhir had successfully mentored the Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan co – owned IPL Team – Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL this year winning the Tata IPL 2024 . Having won  earlier in 2012 and 2014 when Gambhir Captained the side .

The gritty opener  incidentally was the top  scorer in the finals of India’s victorious 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ICC 50 Over World Cup campaigns.

Having endured the grind and excelled in various roles throughout his career, I am confident that Gautam is the ideal person to steer Indian Cricket forward,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah posted on X.

“His clear vision for #TeamIndia, coupled with his vast experience, positions him perfectly to take on this exciting and most sought-after coaching role. The @BCCI fully supports him as he embarks on this new journey.”

Jay Shah in another post On X hailed the  outgoing Head Coach Rahul Dravid, as he wrote, I express my sincere thanks and gratitude to Mr Rahul Dravid whose highly successful tenure as the Head Coach draws to a close. Under his guidance, #TeamIndia emerged as a dominant force across formats, including being crowned ICC Men’s T20 World Cup champions!

His strategic acumen, persistent efforts to nurture talent and exemplary leadership has instilled a culture of excellence within the team and that is also the legacy his leaves behind. The Indian dressing room today is one cohesive unit standing together through challenges while revelling in each other’s success.
