The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and Probability Sports India Private Limited (PSIPL) are pleased to announce that legendary cricketer and Mumbai’s pride, Sunil Gavaskar, will be the Commissioner for the inaugural edition of the T20 Mumbai League, which will be held at the Wankhede Stadium from March 11 – 21.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest opening batsmen in Test cricket history, “Sunny”, as he is popularly known, is iconic to Mumbai cricket. Gavaskar set world records during his career for the most Test runs and most Test centuries scored by any batsman. He held the record of 34 Test centuries for almost two decades. A Padma Bhushan recipient, Gavaskar was the first person to score centuries in both innings of a Test match three times, and the first Test batsman to score 10,000 Test runs.
On this landmark announcement, Sunil Gavaskar said: “The T20 Mumbai League is a very exciting development in the city’s cricketing landscape, and it is thrilling to be a part of it from the inaugural edition itself. Mumbai is bursting with talent, and the league will provide the much-needed platform for young cricketers to showcase their skills and scale great heights.”
