The Special PMLA Court in Mumbai has remanded Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut to ED custody till August 4 in the Patra Chawl case.
Sanjay Raut’s Lawyer Advocate Ashok Mundargi told the court – Sanjay Raut’s arrest is politically motivated. He is a patient with a heart-related ailment. He had also undergone surgery. Papers related to this have been presented before the court.
ED which had pressed for 8 day custody through it’s lawyer argued, and told court, Sanjay Raut was summoned 4 times but he appeared before the agency only once. During this, Sanjay Raut tried to tamper with the evidence and key witnesses.
Earlier in the day, Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray had slammed the vendetta politics, says he is proud of party MP Sanjay Raut, arrested by ED.
“I am proud of Sanjay Raut. There’s a dialogue in the film, ‘Pushpa’ – “jhukega nahi”. But the real Shiv Sainik who won’t bend is Sanjay Raut. Those who used to say they won’t bend are all on that side today. That’s not the direction shown by Balasaheb. Raut is true Shiv Sainik,” Uddhav Thackeray said.
Uddhav further stated, We have to wipe out whoever speaks against us – a vendetta politics with such a mindset is going . I have begun to hate politicians. I am proud of Sanjay Raut, and I know Bhagat Singh Koshyari is behind this.
Thackeray met with family members of party leader Sanjay Raut, arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case, in suburban Mumbai. Thackeray visited Raut’s residence in Bhandup along with party MP Arvind Sawant, MLA Ravindra Waikar and Sena leader Milind Narvekar. Raut and Thackeray are known to share a close bond.
At Raut’s residence, Thackeray met with his elderly mother, wife, daughters and other family members. Raut’s mother and wife had turned emotional while he was being taken away by the Enforcement Directorate on Sunday.
