External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, a day after the US warned of consequences for countries attempting to “circumvent” American sanctions against Moscow.
“Our meeting today takes place in a difficult international environment,” EAM Jaishankar said. “India has always been in favour of resolving differences and disputes through dialogue and diplomacy. In our meeting today, we will have the opportunity to discuss contemporary issues and concerns in some detail. We have diversified our cooperation by expanding our agenda,” Jaishankar said.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, “India and Russia have been developing strategic partnerships and this has been our priority. We certainly are interested in having the world order balance. We have intensified our bilateral context. Our president has sent his best regards to PM Modi.”
The high-level talks took place in the backdrop of indications that India could buy greater volumes of discounted Russian oil and both sides were keen on having a rouble-rupee arrangement for bilateral trade. Lavrov arrived in New Delhi on Thursday evening after concluding a two-day visit to China.
