Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a jibe at the opposition alliance INDIA, citing reviled names like East India Company and Popular Front of India to assert that people cannot be misled merely by the use of the country’s name.
In his address to the BJP parliamentary party, Modi said the opposition is frustrated and disappointed and its conduct shows that it has made up its mind to remain in the opposition, sources quoting him said.
He expressed confidence that the BJP will come to power after the 2024 polls with people’s support, asserting that India will become the third largest economy in his government’s next tenure.
The opposition Congress was quick to slam Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his remarks .
LoP Rajya Sabha & Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in Parliament, said , “So many representatives are giving notices under 267 in Parliament. We are talking about Manipur, but the Prime Minister is talking about East India Company”
Former Congress party president Rahul Gandhi tweeted
Call us whatever you want, Mr. Modi.
We are INDIA.
We will help heal Manipur and wipe the tears of every woman and child. We will bring back love and peace for all her people.
We will rebuild the idea of India in Manipur.

Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala told reporters, “PM is insulting the country, freedom fighters… He has time to speak in the US Parliament but does not have time to speak on Manipur in the Parliament of the country. Why does he hate the Indian Constitution and Parliament?”
Reacting to Prime Minister’s remarks, Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh, told reporters outside parliament “We have never such a Prime Minister who is scared of giving answers in the Parliament and if he has so many issues with the word ‘India’, he should remove ‘India’ from BJP for India, Startup India and others. We are proud of the name ‘India’.”
“Instead of addressing his members of parliament in Delhi, my advice to PM is to meet your MLAs from Manipur. They’ve been camping in Delhi and you’ve refused to meet them. Your MLAs’ have been beaten up but nobody from your party goes on to look after them… Today, the conflict has spread to Assam and Mizoram. People from Manipur have been asked to leave Mizoram. People from Mizoram who are living in Assam are being threatened,” said Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi.
Jairam Ramesh, Senior Congress leader in- charge of Communications tweeted ,
It’s clear that the PM is very rattled by the 26-party INDIA. Not only is he trying to give new life to the almost-dead NDA but has also given it a new meaning through his vile abuses this morning—the National Defamation Alliance.
When he is cornered, this is what Mr. Modi does…
