Recently the Polish Institute New Delhi had the pleasure of hosting Narodowe Czytanie 2025 (National Reading Day 2025), a celebration of Poland’s rich literary tradition. This year’s edition was dedicated to the timeless poetry of Jan Kochanowski, one of the most distinguished voices of the Polish Renaissance, whose words continue to inspire across centuries and cultures.

The evening was inaugurated by Dr. Piotr Antoni Świtalski, Head of Mission for Poland in India, who warmly welcomed the audience and opened the readings with heartfelt recitations about the importance of language. His presence underlined the power of literature as a bridge between nations and generations.

Throughout the evening, participants, readers, and partners came together to celebrate the enduring beauty of Polish literature. Their passion and dedication created an atmosphere of warmth and inspiration, showing how words can connect hearts beyond borders.

Speaking on the occasion, Małgorzata Wejsis-Gołębiak, Director of the Polish Institute New Delhi, rejoiced, “Narodowe Czytanie is more than an event—it is a living tradition that reminds us of the power of literature to unite communities, transcend boundaries, and keep cultural heritage alive. We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us this year in celebrating Jan Kochanowski’s genius and the universal language of poetry.”

The evening not only celebrated the timeless brilliance of Jan Kochanowski but also underscored how literature continues to strengthen cultural ties between Poland and India, offering a shared space for reflection, dialogue, and inspiration across generations.
