The political uncertainty in Karnataka seems to be over. As Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has won the confidence motion by voice vote. Yediyurappa had moved a confidence motion seeking to prove the majority of his three-day old government in the state assembly.

Following the trust vote victory, Karnataka CM Yediyurappa in a tweet wrote , “Winning the trust vote is, taking one more step closer towards a stable and strong administration. Will uphold the trust by ensuring transparent and accountable governance. I would like to thank the citizens, MLAs and each and every BJP Karyakartha for the trust placed in me.”

The development comes a day after Karnataka Assembly Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar disqualified 14 more rebel Congress-JDS lawmakers under the anti-defection law.

Kumar disqualified all 17 rebels, an action that reduces the majority mark in the assembly and paved the way for the newly formed BJP government to win the trust vote smoothly today

Facing an assembly with a truncated strength, Yediyurappa moved a one-line motion that said the House expresses confidence in the ministry headed by him.

In his remarks, Yediyurappa said he would not indulge in “politics of vengeance” and believed in the “forget and forgive principle.”

The BJP came to power in the state after the Congress and the Janata Dal Secular coalition collapsed after losing the trust vote.

Hopefully, the state will see governance after the political turmoil in the days ahead.

In another development, Karnataka legislative assembly Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar tendered  his resignation from the post.
