72 – year -old Kamal Nath , the seasoned Congress leader and PCC chief Of Madhya Pradesh took oath as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh in Bhopal . At a ceremony attended by several opposition leaders.
Congress party president Rahul Gandhi picked Kamal Nath after several rounds of consultations with several party leaders including former party president Sonia Gandhi as campaign committee chief Jyotiraditya Scindia too threw his hat in the race for the CM’s post.
The nine-time Chhindwara Lok Sabha MP was administered oath of office by Governor Anandiben Patel at the Jamboree Maidan in Bhopal. Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, former PM Manmohan Singh were present during the ceremony.
Other prominent leaders seen at the event were – former prime minister H D Devegowda, Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, LJD leader Sharad Yadav, Sharad Pawar , TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, DMK president M K Stalin .
Newly elected Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Deputy CM Sachin Pilot were also there
Former chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was also present during the swearing -in ceremony. Former Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah lauded Chouhan for sharing the stage with several Congress leaders.
In appreciation of the gesture, Omar Abdullah took to twitter to post a photo of Chouhan, hoisting hands of Jyotiraditya Schindia on one side and Kamal Nath on the other in celebratory repose. ” Respect for Shivraj Singh Chouhan. It can’t have been easy to do this & that too after such a narrow defeat,” he wrote.
