Opposition bloc INDIA have resolved to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha polls together “as far as possible”, asserting seat-sharing arrangements in states will be concluded at the earliest in a “collaborative spirit of give-and-take”. It also exuded confidence that the new front would easily defeat the BJP.
Bihar CM and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar told reporters after returning to Patna , “The meeting (INDIA alliance) was conducted & everything went well. Everyone held a press conference and put forth their views after the meeting. It was a good meeting…”
On the meeting of our alliance, senior leaders of the BJP used the term ‘ghamadia’. This proves who is ‘ghamandia’? They don’t even like people coming together…I promise that we will not stop & we won’t go on the wrong path…We will do everything to give a clean administration in the country…” : NCP chief Sharad Pawar on INDIA alliance in Mumbai
Meeting against the backdrop of speculation in certain political circles about early polls and formation of a panel to explore the possibility of ‘one nation, one election’, the opposition bloc leaders set up a 14-member coordination committee that will act as the highest decision-making body of the alliance and initiate work on seat sharing.
Sources said the body has been asked to work out a seat sharing formula by September end, a suggestion that was given during informal talks between the leaders.
After the INDIA alliance meeting, CPI leader D Raja told ANI , “…People want BJP to be removed from the seat of power in the interest of the country and the future. So, the political parties are aware of this. They are responsible and very sensitive to the expectations of the people and people should not be taken for granted because there is discontent against BJP…”
