In what was probably his last speech before the Lok Sabha polls of 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in aggressive speech strongly backed his government. He slammed the Congress party, framing his government’s 55 months against its 55 years in power, and warned against a “mahamilavat” (highly adulterated) government if his party wasn’t voted back.
Speaking Thursday in what could be his last speech in the 16th Lok Sabha, Modi accused the Congress of bullying the judiciary, compromising with the national interest and humiliating the Army.
He also presented a report card of his government trying to rebut the criticism on his government on job creation and measures for farmers.
In a long reply to the debate, Modi said: “When we speak about history, we use BC and AD. We heard speeches which kept mentioning the periods from 1947 to 2014.”
“BC and AD have their meanings. BC means ‘Before Congress’ which means there was nothing before the Congress came to power and AD ‘After Dynasty’ which means whatever happened was after the dynasty,” Modi said.
Speaking about Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s barbs over the Rafale jet deal, the PM alleged that the opposition party does not want the Air Force to be strong.
“I am levelling a serious allegation,” he said in the Lok Sabha. “I want to say it on the floor of Parliament that the Indian National Congress doesn’t want our armed forces to be strong. They don’t want our security apparatus to be strong. Which companies are they bidding for that they are acting so shamefully,” he said.
The PM said that under the Congress rule, armed forces were adversely affected because of delay in procurements. The armed forces personnel did not have bullet-proof jackets, proper shoes, communication equipment or even helmets, added the PM
