There were lot of doubts about Ranbir Kapoor 35, when he was signed by Rajkumar Hirani to play the title role in ‘Sanju’ a biopic on Bollywood superstar Sanjay Dutt. But the decision cast Ranbir has paid off handsomely it seems as the maker of the film are laughing all the way to the bank . The film has smashed Box- office records – crossing Rs 300 crore and crossed Rs 500 crore worldwide.
It has given Ranbir his biggest blockbuster in his career till date. And the success puts him back in the race to become the next superstar .

The star had a Blockbuster in 2013 Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) opposite Deepika Padukone and then had a success with Karn Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in 2016 . The film besides Ranbir had Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ansuhka Sharma and Fawad Khan. Jagga Jassos along with katrina Kaif released in 2017 was a disaster
His rival Ranveer Singh had raced away from him with Blockbusters like Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat. The pressure was on Ranbir to live up to his billing as the next superstar in the making. Ranbir was desperate for Big hit and “Sanju” could not have come at a right time.
The phenomenal success of Sanju and Ranbir’s brilliant portrayal of superstar Sanjay Dutt has earned him kudos. The film’s other star cast too had delivered the goods – Paresh Rawal, Vickey Kaushal, Anushka Sharma , Dia Mirza , Sonam Kapoor. The film took off to a spectacular start – collecting a whopping Rs 34.75 crore on its opening day.

As per film trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Sanju earned Rs 316.64 crore till July 15. It’s slightly behind Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan that has a gross earning if Rs 320.34 crore till date. The film, which is still earning money, is expected to break Salman’s record in the coming days. The other films on this list are Baahubali 2, Dangal, PK and Tiger Zinda Hai.
