The Delhi high court has dismissed a plea seeking direction to suspend all construction activity of the Central Vista Avenue Redevelopment Project in view of the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
The court also imposed Rs 1 lakh fine the on petitioners saying it’s a motivated plea and not a PIL.
Terming the Central Vista as an “essential, national project”, the court said as the workers are staying on site, no question of suspending the construction work arises. The concerned DDMA order in question nowhere prohibits construction work, it said.
The opposition has been critical of the project, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi has relentlessly attacked it through his tweets as he wrote earlier, Central Vista is criminal wastage. Put people’s lives at the centre- not your blind arrogance to get a new house!
