1998 World Cup winner France came up with a clinical display in the tournament of upsets as they beat Uruguay 2-0 to enter the semi- finals.
France powered home thanks to strikes from Raphael Varane and Antoine Griezmann
Varane (40th) glanced past goalkeeper Fernando Muslera after Griezmann floated a free-kick into the box from the right side.
In the second half, Griezmann (61st) made the most of a goalkeeping howler from Muslera to double the advantage as France eased into the semi-finals where they will face Belgium.
Uruguay badly missed the services of Edinson Cavani, ruled out of the clash due to calf injury sustained in the clash against Portugal.
What made the matters worse for Uruguay was the poor form of star striker Luis Suarez , who could not make single attempt at goal. Cavani and Suarez form a potent pair but Cavani’s absence hurt Suarez too. It was very much evident.
