Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala , Shashi Tharoor has filed his nomination for the post of Congress president . He is likely to face the leader of party in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.
Earlier before filing his nomination , Tharoor visited Rajghat and paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi ahead of filing his nomination papers for the party’s presidential poll. In a Tweet , Tharoor wrote, Paid homage to the Great Soul at Rajghat before embarking on my campaign

Later speaking to ANI , Tharoor said, “When you enter a race, you know that the outcome is uncertain but you go with confidence that you’ll give a good account of yourself.”
Tharoor also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and visited his memorial Vir Bhumi before filing his nomination

Later addressing the media, Tharoor quoted by ANI said, We have seen that things are not really functioning properly in our country; demonetisation, historical unemployment, inflation. Congress should be the party to bring change.
