Former President of India and Congress stalwart, Bharat Ratna Pranab Mukherjee has passed away at Army Research and Referral Hospital in New Delhi at the age of 84 ( 1935- 2020) .
The government has announced announced a seven-day state mourning for the late President as a mark of respect. State mourning will be observed for seven days throughout India from August 31 to September 6, both days inclusive.
He was admitted to the hospital on August 10 and was operated for removal of a clot in his brain. He later developed lung infection and was on ventilator support.
The flag at Parliament was lowered to half mast, a sign of national mourning. “With a Heavy Heart , this is to inform you that my father Shri #PranabMukherjee has just passed away inspite of the best efforts of Doctors of RR Hospital & prayers ,duas & prarthanas from people throughout India ! (sic),” Mukherjee’s son tweeted.
As soon as the news came in leaders paid their rich tributes and hailed his phenomenal contributions.
