Amidst serious serious differences which Shiv Sena had with the BJP on host of issues like Rafale deal, Ram Mandir ( Sena wanted Date announcement on Temple construction), the party has sprung a surprise . It has struck an alliance with the BJP for the Lok Sabha as well as the assembly elections in the state .
At press conference in Mumbai BJP president Amit Shah, Chioef Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray announced their deal . Maharashtra has 48 Lok Sabha seats.
“The Shiv Sena will fight on 23 seats and the BJP will contest on 25 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections,” said Fadnavis. The CM further underlined that the two parties share the “same ideology”.
Elaborating on the decision, Maharashtra CM said that this decision was taken in the interest of the nation and predicted that the BJP will come to power at the national level in 2019.
It remains to be seen how much this alliance clicks given the open bitterness of the two that was evident in full public glare. And will it able to stop the NCP – Congress alliance ? Only time will tell.
