After the Supreme Court stayed his conviction in the Modi surname defamation case, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s membership of the Lok Sabha was restored . It paves the way for Wayanad MP to return to parliament.
The Lok Sabha membership of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was restored on Monday. The Lok Sabha Secretariat issued a notification announcing that his disqualification has been revoked and his membership restored.

Gandhi was disqualified as a Lok Sabha member on March 23 after a Gujarat court convicted him in a defamation case and sentenced him to two years in jail.
On restoration of Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha membership, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi says, “Speaker took the decision today. We followed the legal process and immediately after receiving the Supreme Court’s order, we restored it…”

Senior Congress leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram told ANI outside parliament, “We are happy that Speaker took the decision today. He (Rahul Gandhi) can now attend the Lok Sabha.”
On restoration of Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha membership, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav quoted by ANI said , “As far as the Congress leaders and Rahul Gandhi are concerned, I would like to congratulate them on the restoration of the membership. I also congratulate the Supreme Court. After this decision, the faith in democracy and the courts has increased.”
