Former Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat, who recently expressed his dissatisfaction over the functioning of the party leadership, appears to have been placated after his meeting with Rahul Gandhi, on Friday.
After the meeting, Rawat said he will be the face of the election campaign in Uttarakhand. He, however, will not be declared the chief ministerial candidate as a decision on this would be taken by Congress legislature party after the polls, if the party is voted to power.
According to news agency ANI, when he was asked if he would be the CM candidate, Rawat said, “In Congress, after the election is completed, Congress legislature party meets to decide their leader. They send their recommendation to Congress president and then the president decides who will lead the party. We will follow the same procedure in Uttarakhand too.”
The meeting was also attended by Congress leaders from the state, including Uttarakhand Congress president Ganesh Godiyal and CLP leader Pritam Singh.
Godiyal said the polls will be fought under the leadership of Rawat and assured that the former CM will be given a free hand.
