Supreme Court have issued notice to Centre and others and said that a five-judge Constitution Bench will hear all the petitions related to abrogation of Article 370, in the first week of October.
Supreme Court also turned down the request from the Centre to appoint an interlocutor for Jammu & Kashmir.
The Court is hearing a batch of petitions questioning the validity of the Central Government’s decision to remove special status of Jammu & Kashmir and abrogating Article 370.
Supreme Court also issued a notice to the Centre on the plea by Kashmir Times Executive Editor, Anuradha Bhasin, seeking a direction for relaxing restrictions on the internet, landline, & other communication channels. SC sought a detailed response from the Centre within 7 days. The SC also issued a notice to the Centre on the freedom of press in J-K and asks it to respond in seven days.
It may be noted that the petition against the scrapping of Article 370 was filed by advocate M L Sharma, National Conference MPs Mohd Akbar Lone and Justice (rtd) Hasnain Masoodi who have challenged the changes made in the constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir by the Centre.
They have also been joined by former IAS officer Shah Faesal and former Jawaharlal Nehru University student leader Shehla Rashid and several others including eminent persons like Radha Kumar.
