Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s big claim that he would he would be back in Red Fort On August 15, 2024. “He will hoist the National Flag once again next year, he will do that at his home,” Kharge told news agency ANI.
“Every person says that they come back again and again after winning. But making you win or lose is in the hands of people, in the hands of voters. To say in 2023, ‘I will hoist the flag once again in 2024’ is arrogance. If he keeps making comments on Opposition even on Independence Day, how will he build the nation?”

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal told ANI , “In the 2024 elections people of the country will decide who is coming back & who is not. Let us at least wait for 2024…”
Earlier, Mallikarjun Kharge skipped the Independence Day function at the Red Fort from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation and after facing flak from the Bharatiya Janata Party said he did not attend as he would have missed other I-Day functions lined up due to security restrictions.
A chair reserved for Kharge, who is also the leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, was seen empty during the 77th Independence Day function at the Red Fort.
Kharge, however, unfurled the national flag at his residence and later at the Congress headquarters where the Independence Day function was also attended by Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders.
The BJP hit out at Kharge saying it shows the party’s “mindset” and that it cannot think beyond “dynasty”.
